Grain de Seneve and BHA have identified four children who are at high-risk of becoming street kids who participated in BHA’s theater workshop this August.  They have all received scholarships to attend primary school for the 2014/2015 school year. These children will be monitored throughout the school year to ensure they are attending, performing to the best of their abilities and to identify areas of need. BHA hopes to expand our scholarship program to additional children in the future.

    • Eric

      Scholarship Recipient

BHA staff found Eric begging for food and money on the streets of Kigali, Rwanda. He is eleven years old. After learning that he spends his days on the streets begging for food because there is no food at his house, BHA asked to visit his house so we could really see what the conditions are like. He lives in a dirt 8×10 room with his three siblings and mother. His mother has AIDS and is unable to work to provide food for her kids.

BHA invited Eric to join our theater workshop in August 2014. At the workshop, Eric had the opportunity to interact with other kids and really blossomed, taking a significant role in the final performance.

BHA is working with Eric’s family to provide food and health insurance and a scholarship to ensure that Eric no longer has to beg for money and food to provide for his siblings.

When he grows up, Eric wants to be President of Rwanda.

He has been the victim of many beatings during his time on the streets. During the August 2014 workshop, he wanted to make sure his community knew about the violence street kids suffer and asked people to please stop beating him.

Prime feels like school will open so many doors for him. When he grows up he wants to be a priest.
